Intacoxia

Intacoxia (Etoricoxib Tablets) is a prescription medication used to treat osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are hormones that cause inflammation and pain.

Composition:

Each tablet of Intacoxia contains 30mg, 60mg, or 90mg of etoricoxib, a selective COX-2 inhibitor. The tablets are coated with a film that helps to slow down the release of the active ingredient in the body.

Mechanism of Action:

Intacoxia works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme that is involved in the production of prostaglandins. By inhibiting COX-2, Intacoxia reduces the production of prostaglandins, which leads to a decrease in inflammation and pain.

Uses:

Intacoxia is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip, knee, or hand
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
  • Ankylosing spondylitis (a type of arthritis that affects the spine)
  • Acute gouty arthritis (a type of arthritis that causes sudden, severe pain in the big toe)

Dosage:

The recommended dosage of Intacoxia varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the medication. The usual dosage is:

  • Osteoarthritis: 60mg or 90mg once daily
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: 90mg once daily
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: 60mg or 90mg once daily
  • Acute gouty arthritis: 120mg as a single dose

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Intacoxia include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue

Rare but serious side effects include:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
  • Liver damage or failure
  • Kidney damage or failure
  • Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction)

Contraindications:

Intacoxia is contraindicated in patients with:

  • A history of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration
  • A history of kidney disease or kidney failure
  • A history of liver disease or liver failure
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Precautions:

Patients should be monitored regularly for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney damage, or liver damage while taking Intacoxia. Patients should also be advised to report any signs of an allergic reaction or other adverse event.

Interactions:

Intacoxia may interact with other medications, including:

  • Warfarin (a blood thinner)
  • Aspirin (a blood thinner)
  • Corticosteroids (such as prednisone)
  • Antihypertensive medications (such as beta blockers)
  • Lithium (a medication used to treat bipolar disorder)

Important Note:

Intacoxia should not be used in patients with a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, as it may increase the risk of these complications. Patients should also be advised to avoid taking Intacoxia for more than a few days without consulting their doctor, as prolonged use may increase the risk of serious side effects.
