Kondro Acute
Kondro Acute (Glucosamine Diacerein Tablet) is a prescription medication used to treat osteoarthritis (OA), a condition characterized by the breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone.
Composition:
Each tablet of Kondro Acute contains 500mg of glucosamine and 30mg of diacerein.
Mechanism of Action:
Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino sugar that is an important component of cartilage. It helps to maintain the structure and function of cartilage by:
- Regulating the synthesis of proteoglycans, which are molecules that give cartilage its elasticity and ability to absorb shock
- Inhibiting the activity of enzymes that break down cartilage
Diacerein is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent that helps to reduce inflammation and pain in the joints. It works by:
- Inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that cause pain and inflammation
- Blocking the action of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are involved in the production of prostaglandins
Dosage:
The recommended dosage of Kondro Acute is one tablet taken twice daily, with or without food.
Uses:
Kondro Acute is indicated for the treatment of:
- Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, hip, or spine
- Mild to moderate OA-related pain, stiffness, and swelling
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Kondro Acute include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Dizziness
Rare but serious side effects include:
- Allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis)
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe skin and mucous membrane disorder)
- Toxic epidermal necrolysis (a life-threatening skin condition)
Contraindications:
Kondro Acute is contraindicated in patients with:
- Hypersensitivity to glucosamine or diacerein
- Kidney disease or severe kidney impairment
- Liver disease or severe liver impairment
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Precautions:
Patients with a history of gastrointestinal problems, such as peptic ulcers or bleeding, should be monitored closely while using Kondro Acute. Patients with a history of kidney disease or severe kidney impairment should be monitored closely for changes in their kidney function.
Interactions:
Kondro Acute may interact with other medications, including:
- Anticoagulants (blood thinners)
- Antiplatelet agents (blood thinners)
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Warfarin (Coumadin)
Important Note:
Kondro Acute is not recommended for use in patients with severe OA-related pain, stiffness, and swelling. Patients should be monitored regularly for changes in their symptoms and for signs of adverse events.
