Egyban 6mg (Ibandronic Acid) 6mg Injection is a prescription medication used to treat osteoporosis, a condition characterized by brittle and porous bones that can lead to fractures.
Composition:
Each vial of Egyban contains 6mg of ibandronic acid, a bisphosphonate that inhibits the activity of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue.
Mechanism of Action:
Ibandronic acid works by:
- Inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, which reduces bone resorption and increases bone density
- Suppressing the formation of new bone by inhibiting the activity of osteoblasts, the cells responsible for forming new bone tissue
- Reducing the levels of calcium in the blood by inhibiting the absorption of calcium in the gut
Indications:
Egyban is indicated for the treatment of:
- Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at high risk of fracture
- Osteoporosis in men who are at high risk of fracture
- Hypercalcemia (elevated levels of calcium in the blood) due to malignancy or other conditions
Administration:
Egyban is administered intravenously over a period of approximately 15-30 minutes. The recommended dose is 6mg every 3 months.
