Imutrex (Methotrexate) 7.5mg Tablets is a medication used to treat various conditions, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Psoriatic arthritis (PsA)
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)
- Severe psoriasis
- Osteosarcoma
- Gestational choriocarcinoma
Composition: Each tablet of Imutrex contains 7.5mg of Methotrexate (an active pharmaceutical ingredient).
Mechanism of Action: Methotrexate works by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is necessary for the production of tetrahydrofolate. This leads to a decrease in the production of purines and pyrimidines, which are building blocks of DNA and RNA. This results in inhibition of cell proliferation and division, making it an effective treatment for various conditions.
Dosage: The recommended dose of Imutrex varies depending on the condition being treated. For rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, the usual dose is 7.5-20mg taken orally once a week. For severe psoriasis, the usual dose is 10-25mg taken orally once a week. For osteosarcoma, the usual dose is 20-30mg/m² taken orally once a week.
Side Effects: Common side effects of Imutrex include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain

Recommendation: Imutrex is recommended for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, severe psoriasis, osteosarcoma, or gestational choriocarcinoma. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to Methotrexate or other immunosuppressive agents should not receive Imutrex.
Important Note:
