Risofos (Risedronate) Tablet is a medication used to treat:
- Osteoporosis (weakened bones) in postmenopausal women
- Osteoporosis in men
- Paget’s disease (a condition that causes abnormal bone growth)
Composition: Each tablet of Risofos contains 35mg of Risedronate (an active pharmaceutical ingredient), which is a bisphosphonate medication.
Mechanism of Action: Risedronate works by:
- Inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, which are cells that break down bone tissue
- Reducing the production of osteoclasts
- Increasing the production of osteoblasts, which are cells that build new bone tissue
- Reducing the formation of new bone lesions
Dosage: The recommended dose of Risofos is:
- 35mg once daily for the treatment of osteoporosis
- 30mg once daily for the treatment of Paget’s disease
Side Effects: Common side effects of Risofos include:
- Joint pain or stiffness
- Headache
- Muscle or back pain
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Nausea or vomiting
Rare but serious side effects include:
- Esophageal cancer
- Osteonecrosis (bone death)
- Jaw osteonecrosis
- Hypocalcemia (low levels of calcium in the blood)
Recommendation: Risofos is recommended for patients with osteoporosis or Paget’s disease who have not responded to other treatments or who have had unacceptable side effects. Patients with kidney disease or other medical conditions that may affect their ability to respond to treatment should be closely monitored while taking Risofos.

- Patients with kidney disease should be closely monitored while taking Risofos.
- Patients with esophageal problems, such as esophageal stricture or inflammation, should avoid taking Risofos.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare provider before taking Risofos.
- Patients with a history of gastrointestinal problems, such as dyspepsia or gastritis, should be monitored while taking Risofos.
