Fludocyte is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of cancer, including:
- B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL)
- Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL)
Composition:
Fludocyte is a clear, colorless solution containing 50mg of fludarabine per milliliter.
Mechanism of Action:
Fludarabine works by:
- Inhibiting the production of DNA and interfering with the growth of cancer cells
- Reducing the ability of cancer cells to repair damaged DNA
Uses:
Fludocyte is used to treat:
- B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL)
- Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL)
Dosage:
The recommended dosage of Fludocyte is:
- 25mg/m² administered intravenously over 30 minutes
- Repeat every 28 days for up to 6 cycles
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Fludocyte include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Hair loss
- Increased risk of infection
- Increased risk of bleeding
- Lymphopenia (low white blood cell count)
- Neutropenia (low neutrophil count)
- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
Recommendation:
Fludocyte is recommended for patients with certain types of cancer who have not responded to other treatments. Patients should also be advised to monitor their blood counts and liver function regularly during treatment.
Important Note:
Patients should not take Fludocyte if they have a history of severe allergic reactions, liver problems, or kidney problems. Patients should also inform their healthcare provider if they have any underlying medical conditions, such as heart problems or lung problems, before taking Fludocyte.
